The Efficacy of Tolpa Peat Preparation (TPP) in the Treatment of Cervicitis with or without Surgery
Abstract:
Tolpa Peat Preparation (TPP) is an immunomodulating drug produced by Torf Corporation, Wroclaw, and registered for human use in Poland. TPP enhances the process of tissue regeneration. The authors evaluate the effectiveness of TPP in the treatment of inflammatory conditions of the cervix, especially cervical erosions, and the influence of this preparation on the macroscopic, cytological and bacteriological condition of the cervix. TPP was used in 31 patients diagnosed with cervical erosion. All the patients were classified into 3 groups depending on the type of treatment of cervical erosion that was used previously. TPP was administered orally in a dose of 5 mg (in 10 ml of water) daily for 10 days and locally in the form of tampons soaked with 1% TPP solution in the volume of 5 ml, also for 10 days. Administered this way, TPP has beneficial therapeutic effects on the healing of cervical erosion in that it accelerates the process of epithelialization and brings normalization of the cytological picture. A combined use of TPP and electrocoagulation or curettage is especially beneficial in the treatment of cervical erosion because the healing time can be cut in half.
